CHARACTERISTICS, PROPERTIES AND BENEFITS OF GINGER THROUGHOUT HISTORY

Ginger or Zingiber officinale is a herbaceous perennial plant with tubercular roots of the Zingiberaceae family which produces aerial stems which measure up to 1m in height and bear long, fragrant and persistent leaves.
The flowers, yellow or white with a red tip, oval in shape, measure approximately 30 cm. It is now cultivated in many tropical countries.

A LITTLE HISTORY (GINGER, ITS PROPERTIES AND USES)…

Originally from India, ginger has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for around 6000 years.
During Antiquity it will be mentioned, notably by Dioscorides in his famous work De Materia Medica where he praises its properties and its effectiveness.
In the Middle Ages it was used in cooking as a spice by the richest (its price was very high and the spices were then intended for the richest).
It was Arab merchants who imported it to Europe in the Mediterranean basin.
Although forgotten for some time, ginger is still widely consumed today throughout the world, especially in cooking, for its incomparable taste.

OTHER POSSIBLE USES OF GINGER:

Although the capsule remains the most practical form, ginger is available in other forms:

  • Powder: preferably used morning and noon, mixed with water.

  • Herbal tea: boil water and let the ginger infuse for a few minutes. To be taken preferably after meals.
